18' ship's boat constructed by David Antscherl
Complete instructions for constructing and outfitting the 18' ship's cutter may be accessed here: Cutter Tutorial
The secret of constructing a ship's boat is framing and planking over a plug formed to the inside dimensions of the boat. Carving them accurately and notching out for the frames can be difficult. To solve this problem we have created a resin cast plug consisting of two halves. They are joined together with a spacer. Over this completed mold the builder constructs an eighteen foot clinker planked ship's cutter. Not included with the plug is the wood needed to frame and plank the cutter. The HobbyMill can provide quality dimensioned wood for the cutter or the builder can mill it himself.
